On Saturday, May 21, WSU Warriors participated in the 20th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® event in downtown Detroit. More than 690 participants formed the Wayne Cares team, representing 27 different teams across campus. Thanks to the amazing support and participation, Wayne Cares once again won the award for the largest university team!

Funds raised from the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure® are granted to local and national programs that support Susan G. Komen for the Cure's promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever. Last year, the Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure® organization awarded a grant of $784,731 to Robert Burack of the Wayne State University School of Medicine and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute to expand the Wayne County Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program, which provides free breast screening and covers biopsy fees for uninsured women in the county. The expansion will screen another 600 women.
