Wayne Cares: Motor City Makeover

Helping to build a successful community is part of Wayne State University's urban mission. Lending helpful hands to uplift those in need is a critical building block. Wayne Cares is a university outreach initiative that brings together the university community for the purpose of charitable giving. Its primary goal is to help university units work together and collaborate with each other for the good of the community.

WSU and the University Cultural Center Association (UCCA) partnered again for the City's annual Motor City Makeover on Saturday, May 15, 2010. More than 130 WSU and community volunteers joined together to revitalize and clean up the midtown area of Detroit including streets on and near the WSU campus. Volunteers logged approximately 520 hours and collected 300 bags of trash.
