Wayne Cares: COTS 2008

Helping to build a successful community is part of Wayne State University's urban mission. Lending helpful hands to uplift those in need is a critical building block. Wayne Cares is a university outreach initiative that brings together the university community for the purpose of charitable giving. Its primary goal is to help university units work together and collaborate with each other for the good of the community.

The Wayne Cares initiative partnered with COTS (Coalition on Temporary Shelter) this holiday season to collect and donate canned goods and critical needs items for their shelter residents. Last year, the Wayne State community collected and donated more than 4,000 items to COTS. This year, two packed truckloads of donations were delivered to COTS Tuesday, December 23, 2008. Thanks to the generosity of the Wayne State community, more than 5,700 items were donated to those in need. Items included:

  • Books & Toys - 556
  • Toiletries - 1,170
  • Clothing - 2,093
  • Food - 1,809
  • Shoes - 52 pairs
  • Blankets - 66
  • The collective effort made by the University community is truly appreciated, and we are grateful to each and every person who made a donation this year. Thank you!
