Wayne Cares: COTS 2007

Wayne Cares

Wayne State University Donates to the Community

Helping to build a successful community is part of Wayne State University's urban mission. Lending helpful hands to uplift those in need is a critical building block. Wayne Cares is an university outreach initiative that brings together the many charitable organizations across Michigan and individuals and departments at the university.

To demonstrate the Wayne Cares initiative to the Detroit area, in the fall of 2007, Wayne Cares launched a critical needs drive for the Coalition on Temporary Shelter (COTS). WSU students, faculty and staff helped collect more than 4,000 items ranging from children's toys and clothing to toiletries, food and blankets. Items collected:

  • Books and toys - 483
  • Toiletries - 1,017
  • Clothing - 1,308
  • Food - 1,392
  • Shoes - 36 pairs
  • Blankets - 57
  • In all, the university delivered 4,293 items (two truckloads) to COTS on December 11, 2007.
